All the data that an appliance or device produces isn't always important to us and because of that it isn't always measured. One of many companies worldwide that manufacture devices that measure all kinds of properties is Digitron. Although its name may not refer to something so specific, Digitron has been making instrumentation for more than 40 years now.
The fact that the brand is so unheard of is because of how well their products have performed over the decades. In fact, this has resulted in the brand being acquired by Rototherm, a British group of similar brands. This has made Digitron's products even more wide-area despite the brand now focusing mostly on thermometers and manometers.
Types of Digitron Manometers
Digital
Talking about manometers, they are Digitron's central array of products and the most common ones are digital. With a digital manometer, you get better accuracy and ease of use without complicating stuff too much. The inside of a Digitron manometer online is mostly PCB boards that control the device's switchgear and instrumentation. This makes a digital manometer quite reliable.
Analogue
Another type of Digitron manometer is an analogue one which has been the company's first ever manometer. Analogue manometers may feel dated but these Digitron electronics are just as reliable as digital ones if not more reliable. The accuracy level of an analogue manometer may not be on par with a digital one but it still provides good results if used regularly. Sometimes, having a backup manometer requires the use of an analogue device.
Differential Pressure
The above two manometers are typically able to measure the level of pressure inside a device which is what manometers do but there are other types that can measure difference. A differential pressure manometer is able to measure the difference in pressure between two sources. Differential pressure manometers can be both digital and analogue but know that these Digitron electronics are not your standard manometer.
Uses of Manometers
Gas Pressure
Both digital and analogue manometers can measure gas pressure. The reason why measuring gas pressure is important is because it can help ensure the proper functioning of any piping system using the gas in question. A Digitron manometer can also be used by boiler and heating engineers since these manometers are certified for use in hazardous environments.
Air Pressure
Since air is everywhere, manometers are able to be used in various industries to measure air pressure. Many processing plants make use of manometers to ensure that their machinery and equipment operate at the right air pressure. Manometers that are able to measure air pressure are also used to determine the airflow rate in a pipe which can be used together with venturi or pitot tubes.
Water Pressure
Water pressure manometers are different from gas and air pressure ones since these Digitron electronics need to deal with fluids. Therefore proper sealing is mandatory to ensure that the manometer is able to operate when submerged in water. If the fluid being tasted contains hazardous chemicals, again, the device needs to be suitable for that environment otherwise it will get damaged.
Types of Digitron Thermometers
K-Type
A K-type Digitron thermometer found online is one that relies on a thermocouple. This is a sensor that can monitor temperature which comes in different variations one of which is a K-type thermocouple. This type of thermocouple makes a thermometer capable of measuring temperatures starting from as low as -270°C and as high as 1.372 °C. That's because a K-type thermocouple relies on Alumel as its negative material and Chromel as its positive material.
Thermistor
With a thermistor thermometer, you have a semiconductor instead of a sensor. This semiconductor acts much like a resistor since it's sensitive to temperature, but it's not conductive which means it has lower resistance than an insulating material. This semiconductor is known as a thermistor which makes for an extremely accurate thermometer. Thermistor thermometers are also a more cost-effective option than K-type ones but they are not as capable as thermocouple thermometers.
Important Factors of Thermometers
Stem Material
There are certain properties of thermometers that can affect how you use them and in which applications they're meant to be used. One of them is their stem material. There are three main materials such as brass, aluminium and stainless steel.
Brass is a more malleable piece of metal but it has great thermal conductivity. Aluminium is strong and light with good heat dissipation but it's not as strong as steel. Stainless steel is the most durable and strongest material but it weighs considerably more.
Display
The display options of a thermometer matter too and they should involve the following. There should be a max/ min reading, range should be displayed as well as scale divisions and both Fahrenheit and Celsius options. You can also choose between a glass or plastic viewing window.
Dimensions
While thermometers aren't necessarily bulky if you don't look for a more portable unit you can easily go for a less carry-on-friendly instrument. Typically bigger thermometers are more capable but in recent years that has started to change with the introduction of more compact yet capable thermometers.
